Open Repository Overview

Log in the community gitea website and navigate to "Explore" on the top to see the Repository Overview. From the overview select the repository you want to clone.

Hint: If you can't see a repository, it is possible that you don't have access. Ask for access to somebody who manages the repository.

Copy Repository Adress

There is a blue button named "SSH" on the top of repository view. Next to this button you see an url/adress, which you need for downloading/cloning the repository. Press the clipboard button to copy the url/adress.

Open Git Gui

Open a CMD/Terminal and start git gui by typing:

you@your-computer:~$

git

gui

Press ENTER to execute the command.
Hint: The path of CMD/Terminal should be not a directory that contains a git repository. In this case it would show options for the project in the directory.

Now click on "Clone Repository" to open the clone repository window.

Set Clone Repository Directories

Copy the adress of the repository into the "source location"-input field.
Type a path into the "target directory"-input field, where you want the repo to be cloned.

Hint: The path must not exist, so watch out, when you select one with the "Browse" button. First select a parent directory and than add a name manually by typing into the input field.

Download

Press the clone button to download the project.

Hint: In case you connect the first time to the server via ssh, a popup wants to you to confirm the connection. Type "yes" into the field and click OK to confirm.
The download is usually quite responsive and gives instant feedback. However, sometimes the window just does not do anything for a couple of seconds. Please wait at least 10-20 seconds.

Project View

After the download, git gui turns into project view mode, where you see all your changes (there none currently, since you freshly downloaded it)
The repository is now fully downloaded. You can open it with your explorer/finder.
